Sentence Structure Grade 2

1. The children are at a campsite. – subject = The children, verb = are, prepositional phrase = at a campsite, preposition = at, object of the preposition = campsite. 2. They are putting up a tent. (OR) They are putting a tent up. – subject = they, verb = are putting up (the phrasal verb PUT UP can be separated by the object – a tent. 3. They have a very big tent. – subject – verb – article – adverb – adjective – object the verb. 4. They put their backpacks on the grass. – subject – verb – determiner – object of verb – preposition – definite article – object of the preposition. 5. Norman sees a raccoon. – subject – verb – indefinite article – object of the verb. 6. It is looking for food. subject – IS LOOKING is the verb – preposition – object of preposition – The prepositional phrase FOR FOOD acts as the object of the verb. 7. There is a bear in the tree. – subject – verb – indefinite article – complement – preposition – definite article – object of the preposition.
